NDSAC Final Recommendation on Topical Minoxidil

The Interim Recommendation made by the National Drug Scheduling Advisory Committee (NDSAC) on June 19, 2017, subsequent to their meeting of June 11, 2017, was finalized effective July 20, 2017. The final recommendation is as follows:

ยท minoxidil, when sold in preparations for topical use in adults in concentrations of 5% or less, be granted unscheduled status, for human use only

NDSAC Meeting of September 10-11, 2017

The proposed meeting of the National Drug Scheduling Advisory Committee (NDSAC) for September 10-11, 2017 is cancelled.

The next meeting of the Committee is scheduled for December 10-11, 2017. The deadline to receive submissions for a drug scheduling application for this meeting is by end of day Wednesday, October 11, 2017.

Unauthorized prescription drug "Selekta Pregnenolone" sold online by A.N. Tyler Distributing may pose serious health risks

Health Canada is advising Canadians that "Selekta Pregnenolone," an unauthorized prescription product sold online at www.antyler.com, may pose serious health risks. Health Canada seized the product from the company, A.N. Tyler Distributing. Selekta Pregnenolone was being promoted for anti-aging, arthritis, depression, menopause, mental fatigue, premenstrual syndrome, prostate disorders, skin irritation, scleroderma stress, women's health and supporting the immune system.

Important safety information for people with diabetes using NovoPen Echo or NovoPen 5

Health Canada is advising Canadians that Novo Nordisk A/S has updated a voluntary recall of insulin cartridge holders used in certain lots of its NovoPen Echo and NovoPen 5 insulin pens. The company detected that the cartridge holders may crack or break if exposed to certain chemicals, such as some cleaning agents.

Health Canada is advising Canadians not to use these foreign health products as they may pose a health risk. These products have been found by regulators in other countries to contain prescription drugs, heavy metals, or unauthorized drugs that are not declared on the product label. Prescription drugs should only be taken under the supervision of a healthcare practitioner.

These products are not authorized for sale in Canada and have not been found on the Canadian market, but they may have been brought into the country by travellers or purchased over the Internet.
